Scotland is known as the ‘home of golf’ and for good reason. There are a number of world famous golf courses in Scotland, including the likes of St. Andrews, Royal Troon, Muirfield and Carnoustie. Each of these courses are fantastic in their own right and have played host to some of the best golf tournaments in living memory.
However, Scotland is the home golf due to the selection of tremendous golf courses available in the country, hence why so many golfers choose to visit either for short breaks or longer stay golfing holidays. For many, playing a large, 18 hole championship golf course is not an option and that’s where Bonnybridge Golf Club comes in. A great 9 hole golf course situated in central Scotland, just one mile north-east of Bonnybridge, this golf club is a real find for anyone who loves a good and challenging round of golf.
The course itself is a delightful mix of heathland and links, with a friendly welcome for all who come to test themselves, whether it be through 9 or 18 holes. If opting to play the full 18, the course measures just under 6000 yards and playing 18 holes offers four par 3’s, ten par 4’s and four par 5’s, making it an even round in terms of the shorter and longer holes.
The fairways at Bonnybridge Golf Club are tight and the greens can prove to be very quick. Also and as can be the case with many golf courses in Scotland, the wind can offer it’s own challenge and make the course an even tougher test. That’s not to say low scores are not possible, the par 4, 8th hole for example is drivable off the tee at 300 yards and has witnessed many an albatross and eagle in the past. However, you will notice many of the greens are well guarded by bunkers, so accuracy in approach shots is key to a good round.
Bonnybridge Golf Club is open to visitors, so if you are visiting the area and brought along your golf clubs (who doesn’t when visiting Scotland?!), you are assured of a warm welcome. However, if you would like to play the course, do call in advance if possible, as this will make your booking much easier and guarantee you a tee time, rather than having to wait until a slot is available.
The club house will be open and it’s a great place to go after your round for a drink and to dissect your round. There are also a great range of facilities available, such as the hall and lounge, which can be booked for functions, including birthdays, anniversaries and retirement parties.
With generous membership and daily green fees, there is every reason to enjoy a fantastic round of golf at Bonnybridge Golf Club but whatever happens, do not underestimate the challenge it can provide.
